Sarah Godfrey

My name is Sarah Godfrey. I live on my families farm in Kowhitirangi on the Westcoast, NZ. I have a Bachelor of Fine Art majoring in Painting and I recently became a qualified interior designer.

I’m passionate about our mountainous and coastal landscapes in NZ. My goal in painting these landscapes is to capture the colours, contrasts, texture and mood. I start most paintings by layering the canvas with material, anaglypta wallpaper, or recycled dress patterns, then layers of light paint washes go on to give the painting translucency and depth. I often leave a hint of the dress pattern lines visible to show how the painting is constructed.

A highlight of 2019 was when my painting ‘Milford Shadow’ was selected for a gallery feature in the Australian magazine ‘Art Edit’. A previous achievement was winning the Derivan Painting Award whilst at Art School in Dunedin.
